fitness philosophy

“Water at 99°C is simply hot water, at 100°C it turns to steam.
The difference is just one degree!” Be Steam!

The difference between health and sickness, being fit and being unfit, having fun and watching the fun is just one degree. Find that winning degree of difference that will allow you to achieve training goals, be at your best, have more fun, and enjoy a more consistent lifestyle.

“Find the One Degree Difference!”

philosophy

My philosophy is to build a ‘training circle of excellence’ that creates the opportunity to reach optimal health.

The following core factors can help you find that one degree of difference to turn hot water into steam:

  • Learn to play

  • Understand fear vs. luck

  • Embrace variety

  • Be at your best

  • See the success

  • Embrace the Honey Badger Way

Learn to Play: Children don’t have to be taught how to play. Simply throw a bucket and a shovel in some sand and watch the play begin. Children don’t ask to go home or give excuses; they simply enjoy the moment. I remember my grandmother telling my brother and me to go outside and play. She did not say, “Go out and work.” Somewhere along the way, we’ve lost our ability to have fun and play; instead, we equate our quest for optimal health with work. Our program will incorporate the element of fun again. We’ll  “play” outside, create challenges, and enjoy each moment.

Fear vs. Luck: The road to optimal health is riddled with doubt and the fear of failure. Excuses seem to rule: “I’m too busy/too tired/have no athletic ability,” and my favorite… “I’ll start tomorrow.” At some point, we’ve all been afraid to try something for fear of failure. With our program, we will help you understand that FEAR (F.E.A.R) is simply False Education Appearing Real and LUCK (L.U.C.K) is Laboring Under Correct Knowledge. We teach the correct fundamentals necessary for long-term success.

Variety: Have you ever  looked out over a bay? Did you notice that on the bay side, the water is calm and still, with little motion or life? However, the coral side, where the waves are splashing against the rocks, are full of life and vibrant colors. Variety in a training program is like coral; it keeps the body in ready mode, active, and full of life. Once the body adapts to an exercise or training , it becomes stagnant and uses only enough energy for the task. Our program varies the training (exercises, order, intensity, load, and repetition) in order to keep the body in ready mode for success.

Be at your best: Everyone starts with different talents and abilities. You may not be the best in the group, but bring your best to the group. People tend to look at and compare themselves to others, which in many cases is discouraging and make them want to quit. Successful training means not worrying about results but showing up consistently and bringing your best to the table.

Visualize the Success: Optimal health is a journey, not a destination. Visualizing daily successes on that journey will lead to a more productive, positive approach toward fitness training. Remember, you may not be where you should be, but you will be better than you were, and you’ll get better every day. Visualize and believe.

Embrace the Honey Badger Way: The jungle is ruled by the big cats; however, the little Honey Badger is the most Fearless, Ferocious, Tenacious, and Relentless animal in the kingdom. We want to engage that Honey Badger in you by fearlessly accepting any challenge, ferociously attacking any obstacle, tenaciously pursuing your best health, and relentlessly searching for that one-degree difference that turns hot water into steam.
